Councilman Simcha Felder Tackle New York's Pigeon Issues

Take note of the date -- but this may be a viable solution.

Nov 13, 2007 10:49 AM
Nachum hosted Councilman Felder on JM in the AM to discuss the outlawing of feeding New York pigeons.

Nachum spoke with the Hon. New York City Councilman Simcha Felder on JM in the AM this morning to discuss the councilman's latest legislative actions: outlawing pigeon feeding in NY.

He is hoping to redirect where the pigeons congregate by designating certain areas for pigeon feeding and outlawing it everywhere else.

Having lived in Boro Park I can attest to the fact there are many pigeons as well as other birds - that no one is complaining about it would seem- all over the place. However I disagree that they are being drawn by excessive feeding and are causing the 'fowl' stench described. I would argue that this is more due to the complete lack of hygeine demonstrated by residents in the area who use anywhere as a garbage bin and leave food strewn out without concern or care for what it attracts. If the councilman actually wanted to adress this problem in a constructive fashion he would work on an anti-littering campaign and promote a community clean up. However it's easier to blame a few people for the problem than promote a constructive solution that makes all people accountable for the inevitable consequences of their own actions.
